Move Through This:
Gentle Movement & Community for Everyday Well-Being
Every Tuesday [Term-Time] | 12:30-13:30PM | Greenstead Community Centre, Colchester
Move Through This is a gentle, low-pressure movement class for women who want a bit of space in their week to breathe, move, and feel a sense of ease in their body and mind. You do not need any experience in dance or exercise to join. You don’t have to be “good at movement” — just willing to show up in a way that feels comfortable for you.
This class is about movement that feels good, connection with others in a safe setting, and taking time for yourself — no performance, no expectations, no pressure.
What is trauma informed movement?
Trauma informed movement is a practice that recognised the impact of trauma on the body and mind. Rather than pushing or performing, it invited participants to move in ways that feel safe, accessible and nurturing. It respects each person’s autonomy, fosters trust, and focuses on choice and consent at every stage.
Move Through This is not a traditional dance class. It’s a carefully held space that uses elements of dance, mindfulness and body awareness to support nervous system regulation, emotional release and reconnection with self.
Access & Support
We aim to make this space as supportive and accessible as we can. People experience movement, sound, and interaction differently.
Some parts of the session may include changes in energy, volume, or sensory input. You’re always welcome to step out, take space, or opt out of any activity.
If you become overwhelmed, you don’t need to explain or decide anything — facilitators will reduce language and support you to take space if needed.
“Like a dandelion, she let go of what was, trusted in the wind, and allowed herself to grow where she was meant to be”

What to Expect
Familiar music and gentle guided movement
Choices in how much you move — you’re in control
A supportive atmosphere, without mirrors or comparisons
Space to sit, stand, take breaks or rest at any time
We pace each session so everyone can participate at their own level. This isn’t about fitness — it’s about feeling grounded, calm, and connected to your body again
Who is Move Through This for?
This class is for women who are tired, stretched thin, and carrying a lot — even if they don’t quite know how to put that into words.
It’s especially for you if:
You’re a mum who’s always putting everyone else first and rarely gets an hour to yourself
Your body feels tense, stiff, or constantly on edge
You feel overwhelmed, overstimulated, or stuck in your head most days
You’ve tried gyms or fitness classes and found them too intense, too loud, or too much
You want to move, but you don’t have the energy for anything demanding
You’re craving something gentle, calm, and pressure-free
If life feels full, noisy, or heavy — and you want a place where you can just arrive as you are — this class is for you.
How it works?
You’ll be guided through simple, repeated movement patterns that encourage ease and gentle muscle engagement. Sessions include:
A calm arrival and settling in
Simple movement — nothing complicated
Opportunities to move at your pace
A grounding close to help you leave feeling lighter and more centred
Every session is designed so you can join in fully or partially — your choice always matters here.
Why it works?
Even short, gentle movement can help:
Ease muscle tension and stiffness
Give your mind a break from stress
Create a sense of rhythm in your week
Meet other women in a warm, supportive space
There’s no obligation to feel a certain way — the simple act of showing up can be a grounding experience in itself.

Physical and Emotional Wellness
Trauma affects both the mind and body, leaving behind tension, stress, and a sense of disconnection. DanceByond is designed to help you gently release weight, using movement as a powerful tool for healing. Science shows that dance lowers cortisol (the stress hormone), boosts endorphins (your brain’s natural feel-good chemicals), and improves body awareness - helping you feel more present, in control, and confident.
In this class, you’ll reconnect with yourself in a safe, supportive space. You’ll move in ways that feel good for you, rebuilding trust in your body, releasing stored emotions, and discovering a sense of freedom that words alone can’t provide. No pressure, no expectations - just a chance to breathe, move and rediscover your strength.

-
The term survivor is used to describe someone who is currently navigating or has completed the recovery process. We choose this word instead of victim to acknowledge and honour the ongoing strength and resilience of those who have endured abuse.
-
Recovery has no set timeline - each journey is unique. It may take months, years, or even decades to heal. In some cases, the impact of an abusive relationship can be so profound that full recovery may not be possible. However, psychological support can help ease the pain and facilitate the healing process.
